American singer-songwriter from Oologah, Oklahoma, Zachary Lane Bryan unreleased new 9 track EP reportedly leaked online.
Yes, in May, Zach Bryan put out an album called American Heartbreak that has 34 songs. Yes, it has been in one of the top three spots on the Billboard Country Albums chart since then. It is also one of the biggest country music releases of the year, making Zach Bryan one of the biggest country artists right now. Yes, on July 15, Zach Bryan will release a new 9-song album called Summertime Blues. Even though he calls it a “EP,” it has nine songs and is about the same length as most albums these days.
I have no idea how to judge this move at all. It’s a first, just like everything else Zach Bryan has done or will do. Conventional wisdom would say that he’s wearing out the public, giving them too much music, and risking letting down his American Heartbreak album, which is only a few months old but still has a lot of momentum, by putting out a new album so soon. But this is Zach Bryan. From the start, he has done nothing but go against the norm, and he has had a lot of success doing so. He is changing everything we thought we knew about music.
So, feel free to put out a new album. We’ll know soon enough how everything will turn out. There are a couple of songs on the album that many of Zach Bryan’s biggest fans already know. One of these songs is “Oklahoma Smoke Show,” which he’s been playing live recently, as well as “Summertime Blues,” which is not the old Eddie Cochran song about making a lot of noise that Alan Jackson once covered (and countless others). Bryan tried to put out “Summertime Blues” before, but he couldn’t because of a permissions problem. He has since put it back up on YouTube (see below).
It sounds like the album was a bit shorter at first, but things were added to it, including a song called “Jamie” that may have been added by mistake. Bryan keeps calling the whole thing an EP. When it came out, American Heartbreak was streamed more than 87 million times. With 34 tracks, it’s likely to stay the most popular album. But Summertime Blues could put Zach Bryan in another number one spot on the country albums chart and boost his total sales and streams.
Meanwhile, Zach Bryan is getting ready to play at the Calgary Stampede on July 11, the Wild Hare Music Festival in Oregon on July 15, and the Under The Big Sky Fest in Montana on July 17. Some people still don’t understand what all the fuss is about. Many others are completely sold on Zach Bryan and are ready to eat up anything he puts out. They will eat this “EP” up.
