More About Russ:
Russ started composing raps in his notepad when he was seven years old. At the age of 14, he started creating beats for his buddy Bugus, who aspired to be a rapper. Russ decided to pursue a career as a rapper while still in high school.
His first hit singles were on his eleventh studio album, There’s Really a Wolf, and were “What They Want,” “Losin Control,” and “Best on Earth,” which peaked at 83, 63, and 46 on the US Billboard Hot 100, respectively.
Zoo, Russ’ twelfth album, was released on September 7, 2018, and debuted at number four on the US Billboard 200. Shake the Snow Globe, his fourteenth studio album, was released on January 31, 2020, and peaked at number four on the US Billboard 200. In addition to his solo work, he is a member of Diemon, an Atlanta-based music collective.
Russ announced on June 30, 2020, that he had completed his contract with Columbia Records and is now an independent artist. On November 17, 2020, he released Chomp, an EP. Among those who appear are Black Thought, Busta Rhymes, Benny the Butcher, and Ab-Soul.
Russ released 11 mixtapes between 2011 and 2014. These garnered little notice, so Russ decided to postpone the release of his first album until he had a large enough fanbase. Following that, he posted 96 straight weekly tracks to his SoundCloud profile. Among the several songs were “What They Want” and “Losin Control,” both of which were awarded 2x Platinum by the RIAA.
Russ released his first album There’s Really A Wolf on May 5, 2017, and it yielded 7 songs with Gold certification or above and was certified Platinum within a year of its release. On September 7, 2018, his second project ZOO was released, this time with the help of other producers and featured musicians. Then, towards the end of January 2020, he released his long-awaited SHAKE THE SNOW GLOBE record, in which he discusses love, hatred, and his money.
Almost every song by Russ is produced, mixed, mastered, engineered, written, and recorded by him, and he is proud of his status as an independent artist. In 2020, he signed with Columbia Records to become entirely independent, and he celebrated the occasion with an Instagram post.
- But the money makes me handsomer
- Walk around, smelling like a come-up in the answer for her
- Problems but I’m not him, I don’t mind it though
- You don’t like me how you think you do, I like it though
