Rosala’s “MOTOMAMI (Deluxe)” deluxe edition includes “CANDY – Remix.”
On March 18, 2022, Columbia Records released “MOTOMAMI.” Rosala worked on a concept album about her recent experiences with fame, homesickness, and loneliness with producers Noah Goldstein, Michael Uzowuru, Dylan Wiggins, and Pharrell Williams, as well as her longtime friend El Guincho.
Motomami is inspired by the Latin music she grew up listening to and still does as a pop star. “Finding Freedom in Contradiction,” the album, went through several stages. Rosala once considered working on “four projects at the same time”: a flamenco album, a piano ballad album, a dark pop album, and an alternative reggaeton album.
Rosala chose a sound palette to “find a purpose in chaos.” Motomami’s music is defined by “aggressive” drums, “distant” filters, a “naked” voice (no harmonies or reverb), vocal chops, and simple production.
Rosala was a child when she first heard Spanish folk music. She graduated with honors from the Catalonia College of Music with her cover album Los ngeles (2017) and her baccalaureate project El Mal Querer (2018), reimagining flamenco by fusing it with pop and urban music.
El Mal Querer won the Latin Grammy for Album of the Year and was named one of Rolling Stone’s 500 best albums of all time.
