Richard Jefferson recently tried his hand at officiating.
Richard Jefferson is a well-known NBA veteran who currently works as a commentator for ESPN. He has co-hosted many programs for ESPN and is without a doubt one of the most knowledgable guys on the planet. He has an insatiable interest for the game, and he just decided to try his hand as a referee.
Jefferson spent the previous week in Las Vegas attending officiating sessions as part of the Summer League. This finally led to his being hired as an official for last night’s game between the New York Knicks and the Portland Trail Blazers.
Unfortunately for Jefferson, his tenure as an official began on a sour note when he bungled his first call and had it reversed. This elicited some boos, but he handled it well.
Jefferson didn’t appear to mind since by the end of the night, he was telling the other authorities how much he enjoyed it. After all, being in that type of control must be a lot of joy from the viewpoint of a former player.
Perhaps Jefferson will decide to become a full-time referee one day.
