Ne-Yo’s last album came out four years ago, but now the wait is over.
The R&B singer will release his eighth studio album, Self Explanatory, on July 15. The 13-song set includes singles with Jeremih (“U 2 Luv”) and Bleu (“Stay Down”) that have already been released, as well as collaborations with Trippie Redd (“Push Up”) and Zae France (“Layin’ Low”). Ne-Yo released a video for his sultry single “You Got the Body” last month.
He told Jalen Rose, “I want people to take away from this album just music to live life to and music to feel some emotion to.” “We reached a point in music where the feeling had kind of died down a bit. Everyone is really tough and really cool. People are scared of being weak. That openness, that ability to get inside someone else’s heart, is what brings us together.
Ne-Yo started making the album four years ago, but he had to stop because of the pandemic. This year, he remarried his wife Crystal Renay.
He told Haute Living, “I started this album in 2018, and I was working on it a little more slowly than usual.” “The pandemic really messed up everything for everyone, including myself. At the time, I wasn’t recording much because I was trying to figure out what the hell was going on. It was an instance.”
Self Explanatory will come out on July 15.
