Kelis has spoken publicly about her husband’s death for the first time since his death.
For the first time since Mike Mora’s death in March, Kelis has spoken out about how heartbreaking it was to lose him. Kelis told People in a new interview that she is grateful she was able to say goodbye.
“It didn’t happen overnight. We had enough time to prepare, love each other, and say our goodbyes. “We were able to spend the time we needed to, as much as we had, in the best way we could,” Kelis said. “How is everything going?” No, it’s not good, but I’m grateful.”
Mora was diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer in 2020, not long after the couple’s third child, Galilee, was born. Their other two children, Knight and Shepherd, are 13 and 6 years old, respectively.
Kelis stated that their children were “always super aware” of what was going on and that they dealt with it as a family.
“From the beginning, we had nothing to do with it. We’re content with what we have. It’s just the way things are. “I’m still heartbroken, but how I deal with it has changed,” Kelis told the outlet. “It drives home how short time is and how little power we have.” I want to be in control of what I can control, which is how I treat those around me. When people come to visit, I like to have a lot of fun with them. Without them, I don’t think it’s as useful.”
Kelis married Mora, a photographer and real estate developer, in 2014. On March 14, 2022, he died at the age of 37.
