merican rapper, singer, record producer, businessman, politician, and fashion designer, Kanye Omari West now Ye, unreleased eleventh studio album project “Donda 2” reportedly leaked online.
“Donda 2” is the sequel TO Kanye West’s tenth studio album “Donda” released in 2021. It also becomes West’s first sequel album. The is executive produce by American rapper, Future. Since the start of 2022, developments for Kanye West’s Donda 2 have moved at rapid speed. We are now less than a month away from the supposed release of Ye’s next studio album, but we all know how he can tend to delay his projects.
Donda 2 is the scheduled eleventh studio album by American rapper Kanye West. The album is planned to be released through GOOD Music on February 22, 2022 exclusively on West’s Stem Player service. West began recording the album in early September 2021.
Kanye West has not lost his competitive streak, as should be obvious from recent social media posts, when he proudly noted that he was trending above the Super Bowl — on Super Bowl weekend. Yet he seems to not be prioritizing having his upcoming album, “Donda 2,” debut at No. 1 on any charts. Rather than be able to claim any bragging rights for streaming or sales when it comes out Feb. 22, he’s deliberately limiting its listenership to one device … one that can only be purchased from him.
Everyone is excited about Donda 2’s arrival and Kanye West has begun the anticipated album’s rollout. Following the recent announcement of Donda 2’s release next month, Hip Hop fans have been debating Ye’s vision, as well as what features will be on the record. Others, however, have looked back at West’s track record and don’t quite believe that he will drop the album on “2.22.22,” but considering that he stressed the significance of the release date, it’s believed that he will stick to his plan.
So how much will it cost you to listen to “Donda 2” later this month? About $230 — assuming you don’t already own a Stem Player, a handheld device that he began selling last fall, which he now says will be the exclusive platform, and hardware, for the forthcoming album.
The device can only be obtained through a single website, stemplayer.com, with a base price of $200, plus $10 for shipping plus taxes that in California work out to just over $20. For an audience that has become accustomed to a base price of “free,” or modest monthly subscription fees that allow access to most of the world’s recorded music library, that three-figure fee may count as a hefty up-sell, especially if it’s a single new Ye album that’s being used as bait.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, producer Digital Nas who has been a frequent collaborator with West recently, divulged more about the album-making process. When discussing Kanye’s approach to the album, he wants each song to be applicable to any major life event: “These are the directives for the album: ‘If it cannot be played at a funeral, childbirth, graduation, a wedding, it will not be on our record. We learned a lot from Donda 1. We learned what hit. We learned what was sticking. So we took from there. It has to be able to be played at four major moments in people’s lives. That’s crazy, right?”
It doesn’t seem as if Ye will be as accessible, at least not immediately, because he’s made some changes as he works on his forthcoming record. “I don’t have a phone until two, twenty-two, twenty-two,” he said a video. “My focus is taking my kids to school and finishing the album.” He looks to be focused on his budding romance with Julia Fox, as well, as the couple is rounding out their first month together. The pair have been spotted sitting front row at fashion shows and tongue-kissing for the cameras, and it doesn’t look as if they plan on slowing down anytime soon.
Kanye West began recording the album in early January 2022. It is set to contain guest features from Moneybagg Yo, A$AP Rocky, The Game, Pusha T, and NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown with production from West, Mike Dean, DJ Premier, DJ Khaled, and Future. In an interview with Complex on January 4, 2022, record executive and CEO of Victor Victor Worldwide Steven Victor exclusively told the website that Kanye West has began work on a sequel to Donda entitled Donda 2.
Digital Nas helped produce “Remote Control” with Young Thug and “Junya” with Playboi Carti on the first rendition of Donda, as well as their “part twos” with Kid Cudi and Ty Dolla $ign respectively. As they work on Donda 2, Ye revealed that he will be with out his cellphone until the February 22 release date, as he will solely focused on his kids and finishing the project: “”I don’t have a phone until two, twenty-two, twenty-two,” he said a video. “My focus is taking my kids to school and finishing the album.”
With a release date, promotional single with The Game, executive producer in Future and motivation behind the album, it seems that Ye has everything in place for his upcoming release. Now all that is left is to finish Donda 2 and put it out on time.
