merican rapper, singer, songwriter, producer and dancer, Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, known professionally as Doja Cat channels her inner ICEJJFISH for her latest single.
During the night live on Instagram on February 19 2022, Doja played this an unreleased song. After the live ended, she tweeted the title of the track.
Ever since Doja Cat released her blockbuster, chart topping June 2021 Planet Her album and subsequent deluxe two days later, fans have been chomping at the bit for new music from the pop rap sensation.
After releasing her Feb. 11 “Celebrity Skin” single as a cover of Hole’s 1998 Rock cut, Doja is keeping the ball rolling. On Sunday (Feb. 20), Doja dropped her new single “ICEJJFISH What U Wanting (remake/mix)” solely on SoundCloud, as a response to fans begging for it after she teased it in a recent Instagram live session.
Doja elaborated in a tweet that she dropped that song on SoundCloud to get it to her fans as soon as as possible, and would work to get it on digital streaming platforms soon: “Is it cool if i drop What U Wanting on SC then drop it a lil bit later on dsp’s just so you guys can have it earlier.”

The song interpolates meme singer and beloved internet icon ICEJJFISH’s 2020 song “What U Wanting,” as Doja replicates his delicately sung hook and adds vibrant rap verses about spoiling her partner.
Doja Cat began making and releasing music on SoundCloud as a teenager. Her song “So High” caught the attention of Kemosabe and RCA Records, with which she signed a joint record deal at the age of 17, subsequently releasing her debut EP Purrr! in 2014.
Her stage name is derived from the slang word “doja,“ which refers to marijuana, and her love of cats. She has been active since 2013, when she was discovered by Dr. Luke. She is signed to Kemosabe Records, Dr. Luke’s own Sony Music imprint.
After a hiatus from releasing music and the uneventful rollout of her debut studio album, Amala (2018), Doja Cat earned viral success as an internet meme with her 2018 single “Mooo!”, a novelty song in which she fantasizes about being a cow.
Doja’s first EP, Purrr!, was released in August 2014, featuring hit track, “So High.” In March 2018, she released her debut album, Amala, which includes the single “Candy.” In August 2018, she posted a video for “MOOO!” on YouTube, which subsequently went viral. In early 2019, she re-released Amala with several new songs, including “MOOO!” and another high-charting track, “Juicy.” Later in 2019, she released her sophomore album, Hot Pink.
Capitalizing on her growing popularity, her second studio album, Hot Pink (2019), reached the top 10 of the US Billboard 200 and spawned the single “Say So”, which topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart following the release of a remix featuring Nicki Minaj. This album was followed by Planet Her (2021), which spent three consecutive weeks at number 2 on the Billboard 200 and spawned the top 10 singles “Kiss Me More” (featuring SZA) and “Need to Know”.
On May 1st, 2020, Doja recruited Nicki Minaj for their “Say So (Remix),” marking the first collaboration between them. This song broke history for the two females, as of which the song debuted at #1 on Hot Billboard 100 on the week of May 16th, 2020. This became their first time achieving the top spot on the charts, selling past 80k pure sales within the first two weeks.
Doja Cat was featured on the song “Scoop” from Lil Nas X’s debut studio album Montero (2021), which was released on September 17, and then on the song “Icy Hot” from American rapper Young Thug’s second studio album Punk (2021), which was released on October 15.
According to Billboard, Doja Cat closed 2021 as the bestselling female R&B and hip-hop artist in the US, and the forth bestselling female artist overall, additionally placing six songs on the year-end Hot 100.
Planet Her was also the sixth best-selling album in the US, and the fifth most streamed album globally on Spotify in 2021. In 2022, Doja Cat won the awards for Female Rapper of the Year and Performer of the Year at the 2022 XXL Awards.
In February 2022, Doja Cat released a cover of the song “Celebrity Skin” by American rock band Hole, as part of a Taco Bell commercial which stars the singer herself and is to premiere at the Super Bowl LVI. The cover contains reworked lyrics co-written by Doja Cat and Courtney Love, the frontwoman of Hole.
- Wanna be your suga mama, yeah, ‘nough said
- It feel like I’m high when you touch my leg
- When there ain’t no marijuana in my hand
- If you need a dog, I could bark and beg
