New Beyoncé music arrives slowly at first, then all at once, much like falling asleep. After six years without a new solo album and just a few cryptic signals that something was up, Queen B’s streaming platform, Tidal, which is controlled by her husband Jay-Z, tweeted in the early hours of June 16 that Renaissance was on the way. This is consistent with her practice of announcing records in an unexpected manner.
It’s her first genuine solo album since the highly acclaimed Lemonade, which Beyoncé dropped on Tidal by surprise after dropping clues on social media. Prior to it, in 2013, she released her fifth studio album, similarly named “self-titled.” Fans were certain that a new album was on the way when the music diva recently began erasing her profile images from Instagram, Twitter, and other platforms.
They had a valid argument. Beyoncé’s Instagram profile has been updated to state that her next album, Renaissance, will be released on July 29. She also graced the cover of British Vogue with a brief interview and a collection of stunning photographs. In these photos, the 28-time Grammy winner poses with gilded objects that seem both vintage and futuristic, such as horses, motorbikes, and large disco balls. Are these images indicative of how her next album will sound? That is still a closely guarded secret.
As a kid, Beyoncé competed in different singing and dancing contests. She came to prominence as the main vocalist of Destiny’s Child, one of the best-selling girl groups of all time, in the late 1990s.
