More About Benny The Butcher:
Benny The Butcher, is a rapper from Buffalo, New York. Despite issuing music throughout the 2000s, Benny attained a new level of acclaim following 2018’s Tana Talk 3, and 2019’s The Plugs I Met, making him one of Buffalo’s leading rap stars.
Associated with the gritty Griselda crew, Benny draws inspiration from the hardcore hip-hop scene of the 1990s, known for its confrontational and streetwise lyricism. Like collaborators Westside Gunn and Conway The Machine, Benny cites Wu-Tang Clan as one of his major influences.
Benny co-founded Black Soprano Family together with his manager in 2012, and released a Gangsta Grillz mixtape through the label in 2020.
Over the course of his career, The Butcher has gone by various names. In the 2000s, he went by B.E.N.N.Y., an acronym for Best Ever ‘N New York, dropping mixtapes such as 2009’s The Mayor’s Back, and 2010’s Benny Montana. For a period, he went by 2 Chain Bennymane before changing back. He later dropped the abbreviated nickname and used Benny instead, which eventually led to Benny The Butcher—sometimes capitalized as a call-back to his original name.
In October 2020, Benny dropped his sophomore studio album, Burden of Proof, which featured high-profile production from Hit-Boy. Despite branching out from his gritty boom-bap sound, Benny received critical acclaim for pushing his boundaries.
